Busy Week

Wow! It has been quite the week in Room 35. We said goodbye to Mrs. Pisors and hello to Mrs. Jones. We had a school wide spring sing on Monday. On Tuesday we had an all day Public Works presentation where we got to learn about our community. Wednesday we had our final DIBELS test of the year and went to a Table Rock presentation. We went and saw the kids from Jacksonville put on their wonderful musical “Aristocats” at the Britt Gardens on Thursday. We rounded the week out by walking to Central High to see our annual Jefferson Talent Show, where many members of our class were showcased. It was a super fun and busy week!

Remember on Tuesday we will hike Table Rock, so come prepared for our final field trip of the year. Next Friday night is third grade’s annual Come Back Night 5-8 pm. Pizza, games, and fun for third grade only!

It was great to be welcomed back by the smiling faces of Room 35 this week. I know it was sad to say goodbye to Mrs. Pisors, but it was wonderful to hear all the AMAZING things she had to say about our students!

Room 35 students are finishing a PowerPoint this week on a continent that they researched. Can they tell you any interesting information about their research?

Patriotic Program

Our Third Grade Patriotic Program was a great success!  We appreciate our families coming to our program to support our fabulous performers.  The students learned lots of songs and memorized speaking parts to perform at our program.  Great job third graders! (Unfortunately, I didn’t get a lot of pictures because we were so busy that night. Check out the few I got!)

Science Inquiry

I have been neglecting our class blog! I wanted to make sure to update today after we worked on a science inquiry. Today was Boat Race day!!! The assignment was to make a boat out of paper that would float with 4 pennies on it for one minute. In groups of 3, the students brainstormed, made a hypothesis, and constructed their boat. We had a lot of successful attempts! Look for pictures soon!!

Room 35 Update

Wow, we’ve been back for a week since Thanksgiving and what a busy week it was!  On Monday, many of our Room 35 students were able to glue new jewels on their AR pennant because they reached a new level.  Over half our class added new jewels!  Way to go and keep up that AR reading!  Ask your third grader what their December AR goal is and how they are doing reaching that goal.

On Tuesday, started our new Social Studies unit on America and American symbols.  We learned about the Liberty Bell this week.

In writing, we started a project by discussing how we can make someone else’s holiday brighter.  See what your child decided they could do!

On Friday, we had lots of guests in our room observing us during math.  We’ve just started working on multiplication and division and our guests were able to see us discussing arrays, dimensions, factors, and products.  We even came up with TWO conjectures about multiplication!!  It was a very exciting day in math!  See if your child remembers the conjecture that was made about the order of the factors in a multiplication equation or the conjecture made about multiplying by zero.  On Friday, we also had the opportunity to see an opereta put on by the Rogue Opera called “Pinocchio”.  It was a very fun experience!

Whew!!  What a week! Let’s look at the fun learning activities that are coming up…

  • Shoebox Speech presentations start Tuesday!!
  • Holiday sing-a-long on Wednesday
  • The Nutcracker play on Friday in the gym

Thanksgiving Week

It is hard to believe it is almost Thanksgiving!  This year is flying by very quickly!  I have just a couple of reminders for you as you begin your holiday celebrations.

  • Report cards went home last Friday.  If you haven’t seen your child’s report card, please ask them about it.
  • There is no school Wednesday, Nov. 23, Thursday, Nov.24, and Friday, Nov. 25. We will be on a break for Thanksgiving.  Enjoy that turkey!
  • Students need to continue to read over Thanksgiving break. They will have 3 days to test and meet their November AR goal when they get back.
  • Shoebox speech–a speech was assigned today and is due on December 6th. Students do not need to work on it over the Thanksgiving break, but can if they want. A handout went home with your child today, please make sure to read over it with them and have them practice their speeches at home before Dec. 6th.
  • Have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving break!

Harvest Time!

On Monday, we had a great little Harvest party in Room 35.  A yummy cookie, fruit, popcorn, and juice were quickly gobbled up by our party-goers!  Thank you to the moms who came in to help with the party and those parents who sent in or prepped for it.  A big thanks to Jennifer Davis for organizing the food and fun!  I know I speak for 28 third graders when I say PARENTS, WE APPRECIATE YOU!! Check out some pictures of our party fun!

Class Writers

This week in class we’re working on proper nouns and writing in third person. One of our activities was to interview a classmate and write their answers down in third person. Students worked in pairs or trios to interview each other. This also gave the students a chance to get to know one of their classmates better.  Check out some of our writers hard at work. You can check out the interviews at Open House on Tuesday, October 18th!
